About St Andrews

“We wander for distraction but we travel for fulfilment”
- HILAIRE BELLOC

Howard Place is in a wonderful setting close to the historic heart of the Royal Burgh of St Andrews, the former ecclesiastical capital of Scotland about 30 miles north of Edinburgh, 25 miles east of Perth and 10 miles south of Dundee. Today it is probably best known worldwide as the Home of Golf, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club and it’s world famous Old Course. The historic links golf course where Cameron Smith from Australia became the 150th Open Champion and the recipient of its famous claret jug in July 2022.

St Andrews is located on the north-east coast of Fife close to the Eden Estuary.  It is a great place to spend time whether you only have a long weekend, a full week or are fortunate to have much longer. It has a great base of shops large and small, cafes, restaurants and pubs. Alongside feeding your body its museums, art galleries, open/public lectures in the University, and the scheduled ancient monuments should enrich your mind. And a range of seasonal outdoor recreation activities whether beach-based, on its coastal walks, playing one of its ten golf courses, or horse riding, kite surfing, seal watching or sea-kayaking, there is plenty to keep everyone entertained.

St Andrews is a great place to spend time whether you only have a long weekend, a full week or are fortunate to have much longer. It has a great base of shops large and small, cafes, restaurants and pubs and we are surrounded by lots of interesting locations to visit.
